CHERRY BRANCH 374

SALEM  OREGON

The Fleet Reserve Association of Salem, Oregon announces that the Memorial Day Service, Meeting, and Dinner will be held aboard the Willamette Queen on 22 May 2010 underway at 1600.

For the past two years Branch 374 has held a Memorial Day Observance aboard the Willamette Queen Salem, Oregon.  In coordination with Captain Chesebrough, we are offering  FRA members and guests a special gourmet dinner and a two hour cruise aboard the Willamette Queen.  Our observance will include a FRA Memorial Day Program, and the placing of a memorial wreath in the river in remembrance of our “Departed Shipmates and Comrades in Arms”.

We are able to offer this Gourmet Dinner Cruise at a special price of $38.00 per person.  The price “includes” the two-hour cruise, food, non-alcoholic beverage refill and 15% service charge.

Because we plan a dinner on board, we need to have a minimum of 10 persons committed to the event. We are requesting a “RSVP” and payment with your reservation May 15, 2010.

In the last two years, we have had a very nice trip with excellent weather for taking photos.  We are hoping that this one will be even better.  This invitation is also being extended to some other Uniformed Service Organizations of the Sea Services to join us.  Project Coordinator is President Kerry Wymetalek assisted by Larry Alexander, they can be reached at:  503-881-8303.

Please assist us by sending your reservation and payment to the address on the slip as soon as possible.  Thank you and hope to see you on board.

Armed Forces Day BBQ & MOVIE

On Saturday May 15, 2010 VFW Marion Post 661 will hold their first annual Armed Forces Day BBQ and movie.  The event will start at 6 pm and is open to Active Duty, Reserve, Veterans and their families.

Armed Forces Day is a day to recognize, venerate and honor our military forces.  The day was created in 1949 to honor Americans serving in the five U.S. military branches; Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard, following the consolidation of the military services in the Department of Defense. The first Armed Forces Day was celebrated by parades, open houses, receptions and air shows.  Armed Forces Day is also celebrated in many other countries from Vietnam to Pakistan.  Though the United States celebrates theirs on the third Saturday in May.

So to keep history alive and to celebrate those that work hard at keeping out country safe, we will proudly serve those that in turn serve us.  Please come down and join the VFW and show your support and have some good food!  Please RSVP to vfw661@yahoo.com or contact our Public Relations Officer Michelle Crocheron @ (503) 362-5944.

We are in need of volunteers to work the event as well as COOKS.  Please contact Michelle Crocheron at (503) 362-5944.

If you would like to attend but need transportation, please let us know!
